Throughout her life, Kim Fawcett has shown an irrepressible talent for bringing people together and making things happen. Whether organizing a new sorority as a college student, spearheading an effort to build a community pool in Fairfield, or championing legislation in the Connecticut General Assembly in her current role as state representative, Kim dives in with energy, passion and a carefully thought out “action plan.”
Kim’s early professional career as a congressional intern and legislative assistant to the governor of Maryland gave her an important window on the legislative process and planted the idea that she might one day be able to help people by working as an elected official.
But it wasn’t until several years later, after Kim became known as Fairfield’s “Pool Lady” in 2004, that she decided to run for elective office. Many people who worked with Kim on a grassroots effort to organize more than 1,000 families in support of a community pool project saw her potential as a leader and urged her to take the plunge. In 2006, Kim challenged a longtime incumbent in the 133rd district. Seen as an underdog, Kim won the race with her trademark determination – knocking on every door in the district and planning every aspect of the campaign.
Prior to her first campaign, Kim served on the boards of the League of Women Voters, the Stratfield School PTA and the Brooklawn Park Association. She remains an active member of the community and volunteer at Black Rock Congregational Church. In 2007, Kim and her husband, Rick, became founding supporters of Urban Impact, a nonprofit organization that enlists suburban volunteers to help children living in the PT Barnum housing community in Bridgeport.
Kim and Rick married 16 years ago and relocated to Fairfield in 1999. They knew right away that they had finally found the place where they wanted to raise their family. They are the proud parents of three soccer and skiing enthusiasts: Kylie, 12; Cassie, 10; and Nicholas, 8.
In her spare time, Kim is the producer, director and host of a children’s talk show called “Kids Who Care.” The program’s mission is to engage our children in a conversation about current issues facing our community, state and world. Kim can be seen during every election season out talking to voters and walking door to door.
